Tutorial week 04 Answers for Part B

1. Choose ONE corporate portal and describe its nature of business AND different types of companies that collaborate with the chosen company portal earlier in the e-supply chain management system.

The corporate portal i have chosen would be IBM. International Business Machines Corporation (abbreviated IBM, nicknamed “Big Blue”; NYSE: IBM) is a multinational computer technology and consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, USA. The company is one of the few information technology companies with a continuous history dating back to the 19th century. IBM manufactures and sells computer hardware and software, and offers infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology

“IBM’s Corporate Portal Offering goes well beyond the typical corporate intranet, which often just provides access to content. This gives people associated with a company an organized way to interact with each other, using information, applications and experts specific to their functions,” said Scott J. Smith, global executive for IBM Knowledge and Content Management Services.

“For example, with IBM’s portal services, an insurance underwriter can have all of his key applications available in one place — external financial news, customer history, industry evaluations and more,” Smith said. “We can then help his company take this a step further, supplying the underwriter with best practices, descriptions of related company cases, manuals and other unstructured content. All of the time and effort he previously put into searching for the appropriate information and people he can now use to focus on his work.”

Random Ramblings .. again

We Have forgotten~

Dreams, inconsistent angel things
Horses bred with star-laced wings
But it’s hard to make them fly, fly, fly
These wings beat the night sky ‘bove the town
One goes up and one goes down
And so the chariot hits the ground, bound, bound

We have forgotten (Don’t try to make me fly)
How it used to be (I’ll stay here, I’ll be fine)
How it used to be (Don’t go and let me down)
How it used to be (I’m starting to like this town)

When wings beat the night sky ‘bove the ground
Will I unwillingly shoot them down
With all my petty fears and doubts, down, down?

We have forgotten (Am I in love with this?)
How it used to be (My constant broken ship)
How it used to be (Don’t go, I’ll shoot you down
How it used to be (I’m starting to like this town)

Me Myself and I

When in Doubt, Write the First Thing That Comes to Your Head

I always find it interesting how time passes you by so quickly, especially when you have a hundred and one things to do. Little things pile up when you don’t notice, letters to write, things to do, a promised email to something not quite there, and before you know it deadlines are passed and apologies are given. Oh no oh no.
Emotion is whack. It twists and turns you and puts you on the most incredible highs and lows, and all within the boundary of your mind.

~~…. and there it was, in the darkest and most unexpected of all places, a bird of passion. free to roam the earth, free to desires, free to will.
occasionally caged, but free nonetheless. with a trail of vibrant colors and never without a fresh, pleasant scent, it is one that is never meant to be tied down. Unbound by the rules of man and the worldly materials, caged or not, it is, to me, a free creature.
independent above no others like it, stronger in will far beyond those who goes against it.

no amount of metal bars could cage one of its kind. none could rob the independence off its eyes.

which glows.

a constant burn

the flames of passion.

deep within its eyes it burns,

fueled by the essence of passion. the essence of life.so full of life it burns a great flame.

a chaotic mess of the burn, a beauty within it all. where there is chaos, a new order will rise.

a fire so great it humbled mine, consumed it, and grows even greater.
i have said once before, i live to serve.

i live to fuel the flames. to bring life to its full, to die without regrets.
question not what i’ve written, but do question why.

A place in my arms despite all the flame.
A place in my arms no matter the time,
It burns a heavenly burn…
It burns…
and burns…
and burns…

…like a forest fire.

Now that’s what happens when you let yourself write down the first things that come you’re your head. Cheerio.

fly by – Joke of the Day

A close friend recently shared this with me, i think its just beautiful, that i feel the need to share with everyone else.

A little bird flies in the sky.
You look up and it shits into your eyes.
You don’t mind and you don’t cry.
You just thank God that cows don’t fly.

now thats positive thinking for you.

Yet another random post

Finals is in 6 days.  Dividing the hours studying for it and finishing this blog ain’t easy. Yet it all has to be done in order not to fail this course. This is my first short sem in Taylors Business School so far. Short sems may seem easy but its not :) .  Ms Saleena did a good job guiding and helping us in every way possible to pass this sem though.

Discussion on Chapter 4 Topic

Out of the 11 topics i chose number 9. The question would be What are demographics? Why is it important in determining market segmentation in the US?

Demographics or demographic data refers to selected population characteristics as used in government, marketing or opinion research, or the demographic profiles used in such research. (Note the distinction from the term “demography”, see below.) Commonly-used demographics include race, age, income, disabilities, mobility (in terms of travel time to work or number of vehicles available), educational attainment, home ownership, employment status, and even location. Distributions of values within a demographic variable, and across households, are both of interest, as well as trends over time. Demographics are frequently used in economic and marketing research.

Market segmentation and the identification of target markets, however, are an important element of each marketing strategy. It is possible to satisfy a variety of customer needs with a limited product range by using different forms, bundles, incentives and promotional activities. The computer manufacturer Dell, for instance, does not organize its website by product groups (desktops, notebooks, servers, printers etc), but by customer groups (privates, small businesses, large businesses, public/state organizations). They offer the same products to all customer groups. Nevertheless, they suggest product bundles and supporting services that are individually tailored for the needs of each particular group. As an example, Dell offers to take on all IT-administration for companies. This service provides a huge potential for savings for corporate customers. However, it would be absolutely useless for private customers. Thus, segment-specific product bundles increase chances for cross selling.

Testing 123

First of all sorry to Ms Saleena for doing this blog so late. I had problems with the previous ones so here i am redoing the whole blog all over again. Hope you wont deduct my points for this! I remembered the amount of times you told the class that obtaining 20/20 for this blog isn’t possible. So here I am trying.
